Expansion project of Sanya Xinfeng Bridge causes safety risks for pedestrians
The expansion project of the Sanya Xinfeng Bridge has been under construction since last January. However, in recent days, the construction has caused issues relating to pedestrian safety as the work has blocked the sidewalk for pedestrians to use, reports xinhusnet.com.
The sidewalk, leading direct to both Hedong Road and Hexi Road, has been blocked with iron fences. Pedestrians are only allowed to walk through a very narrow avenue near moving automobiles and close to open traffic.
“There are instances where not only motor vehicles are running on the narrow lane but also pedestrians have to basically walk through it. The traffic is crowded and obviously that’s unsafe.”, Mr. Liu showed his worries over the traffic problem, hoping that the relevant department will take measures to solve it.
Stared last January, the expansion construction of Xinfeng Bridge is part of a government program to relive the traffic burden in the downtown center.
