Despite the fact that health certificates have been made compulsory for workers in hotels, many star-related hotels in Sanya have violated the regulation, reports xinhuenet.com.

According to Sheraton Sanya Resort, there are more than 200 staff working in the Food and Beverage Department which meet the regulation, the hotel admitted that they would consider adding some part-time workers from universities during some special occasions like the peak tourist season or large-scale events.

As the hygiene of food to be served is directly related to the hotel guests’ health, it is illegal to employ uncertified food handlers in the hotel’s restaurants, a spokesperson from the Sanya Food and Drug Administration Bureau said.

In order to eliminate public concerns over the personal hygiene of these part-time workers, the food administration authorities will further investigate and order these hotels to examine the employees‘ health conditions and issue relevant hotel licenses after the employees are found to be free from diseases that may contaminate food.
