Sanya encourages local businesses to open their toilets to public

The Sanya Government has decided to reward local businesses for opening their toilets to the public. The rewards policy is to encourage businesses to open their toilets to help to tackle the shortage of public toilets in the city, reports 0898.net.
46 businesses have been publicized by the local government, with each rewarded with RMB 6,000, to let the public know where they can use the toilets.
In 2010, a proposal to call for hotels, restaurants and other units along the streets to open toilets to the public has been put forward by the Sanya Government.
The scheme is part of the government’s manifesto commitment to improve the quality of the social life in Sanya.
“Encouraging businesses to open their facilities to the public, will not only make the city a more civilized and pleasant place to live but also to visit.", said Xia Dehua, the Associated Consultant of the Environmental Sanitation Bureau.
Unlike public conveniences, access to toilets on commercial premises will be circumscribed by a shop's opening hours.
To alleviate the frustration of local residents and tourists caught in the difficulty in getting public toilets in the city, in 2010, the Sanya Government has been speeding up the construction of new public toilets across the city.
