After being selected as the permanent site for the annual International Mathematical Forum, the construction of the Sanya International Mathematical Forum Conference Centre is working well on its way and is expected to be completed by the end of 2012, reports xinhuanet.com.

Located at Phoenix Hill, Phoenix Town, the centre will cover an area of 140 hectares. Upon its completion, nearly 50 international mathematical conferences for academic exchanges and research are expected to be held in Sanya annually.

At present, Banff International Research Station in Canada and Mathematical Research Institute of Oberwolfach in Germany are the two most important mathematical research centers in the world.

Upon its completion, the Sanya International Mathematical Forum Conference Centre will fill in the gap of mathematical research institutes in the Asian region.
