Sanya to set up kitchen waste treatment center in Phoenix Town
A kitchen waste treatment center will be set up to collect and deal with kitchen waste produced by local restaurants in Sanya, where is the only pilot city for kitchen waste recycling, reports hinews.cn.
With a cost of 82 million yuan, the kitchen waste treatment center is to be built near the landfill site of Phoenix Town with a capacity to handle 100 tons of kitchen waste a day.
Currently, the city produces more than 100 tons of kitchen waste everyday.
The kitchen waste center is part of Sanya’s environment protection projects to avoid and reduce food waste generation.
“After being processed by the waste treatment facilities, the unqualified cooking oil can be recycled in into useful biodiesel.”, said a local authority with the Environment Sanitation Bureau of Sanya.
