Sanya, as the only tropical seaside tourist city in China, attracts thousands of tourists every day and the hotel industry has been developing rapidly in recent years. According to the Sanya Fire Department, many of the Bed & Breakfast inns in Sanya have posed risks to fire safety and public security as their hardware facilities are not qualified, reports xinhuanet.com.

At present, there are more than 400 B&B inns in Sanya and the total number of rooms has reached 5,000.

However, according to the Sanya Fire Department, only 187 B&B inns can present fire safety certificates among the 400 inns. The fire risks in the rest are mainly in these divisions, including exits, fire protection systems, electrical, fire doors and hazardous materials

As the current legislation does not clarify the specific administrative departments for the inspection on fire risk assessment of existing hotel facilities or fire safety requirements, the increasing unlicensed B&B inns will add new difficulty for relevant departments to manage fire safety., said Mr. Cui, the Director of Sanya Fire Office.

To ensure the minimum level of safety for guests in all B&B inns properties, Sanya related departments  will soon run safety checks on the hotel facilities. Any unqualified hotel will be ordered to cease operation.
