Sanya to reduce street and landscape lighting to ease power consumption
The Sanya government will focus on the street and landscape lights control from May 2 to 8, 2011 to ease grid pressure as electricity consumption throughout the city continues to rise in recent high-temperature days, reports 0898.net.
In order to ensure the stable operation of power grid, the Sanya government has carried out a plan to avoid peak-hour electricity use in the city. Midnight street lights as well as landscape lights in some roads, where are not in critical needs of road lighting, will be switched off before 7 pm during this period.
Since 2011, the electricity consumption is far beyond its load-bearing capacity in Sanya. As of early March, the largest electricity consumption reached 265,400 kilowatts, increased by 20.36% compared with the same period of last year.
The local government also calls for the public to increase awareness of energy-saving to maintain the stability and security of electrical power system in Sanya.
