A survey jointly conducted by China Tourism Academy and Ctrip.com, a leading travel portal in China showed that Sanya ranks No.1 on the list of top 10 Chinese tourist destinations during the upcoming May Day holiday, reports xinmin.cn.

The ranking list shows that Sanya, Xiamen and Beijing are the top three tourist destinations while Hongkong, Bangkok, Seoul are the three most popular destinations for overseas tours.

Compared with last year, fewer tourists make travel plans to Japan due to the nuclear radiation threat caused by the devastating earthquake that hit Japan on March 11.

As a seaside tourist destination, Sanya tops the ranking list of China’s 10 most popular tourist destinations during the May Day holiday as the implementation of Hainan Duty Free policy has attracted a large number of tourists across China.

Thanks to Xi’an horticultural exhibition 2011, Xi’an ranks the fifth on the list, which has far exceed that of Lijiang and Jiuzhaigou compared with previous years.

Besides, more than 70% tourists choose the form of individual tours during the 3-day holidays.
