Five people were killed in a highway accident on Wednesday morning in south China’s Guangdong Province, local authorities said.
 
The accident occurred around 10 a.m. when a truck rear-ended a minibus, shunting it in the back of another truck on a highway section in Hongcao Township of Shanwei City. The highway links Shenyang in northeast China and Haikou in southernmost China’s Hainan Province.
 
The five people died at the scene. The city’s traffic authorities said traffic on this section was not resumed until 7 p.m..
 
Wednesday is the last work day before the Tomb Sweeping Day national holiday, during which highway tolls are temporarily lifted.
