The application of the Hainan LNG project has been submitted to the National Development and Reform Commission for final approval recently as the government plans to build itself into an important fuel resource supply base in the future, reports xinhuanet.com.

With a total investment of more than 6.5 billion yuan, the project will be under construction in two phases consisting of a terminal and trunk line project.

Located at Yangpu Economic Development Zone, the construction of the terminal is basically completed. The first phase is expected to be completed in early 2014 to supply LNG to coastal regions in southeast China.

The Hainan LNG project forms part of the government’s initiative to diversify energy sources and ensure supply security on the island.
