The press conference of Hainan Island Tax Rebate policy for domestic tourists was held in Haikou City on March 24th, reports hainan.news.cn.
 
The conference revealed that the policy will test pilot a scheme on April 20th in Sanya and officially come into effect from May.
 
According to the tax plan, non-island tourists can enjoy tax-free shopping for no more than twice per person each year at eligible stores. As for island residents, each person is allowed to receive one rebate per year.
 
The policy will apply to tourists from home and abroad (including Hainan residents) above 18- years-old when leaving Hainan Island.
 
The minimum amount of purchase for the tax refund per person each time will be 5,000 yuan.
 
The rebate covers imported items that fall into 18 categories such as jewelry, handcrafts, watches, perfume, cosmetics, ties, clothing, shoes, sporting goods, belts, and sunglasses.
