A total of 12 illegal buildings within the region of Yuhong Village, Jiyang County were demolished Wednesday morning, according to the the Comprehensive Law Enforcement Bureau in Sanya.

 

“I have been living here for more than 2 years because the house price is much cheaper than other places. We have spent all our money buying this house and we didn’t know it was going to be torn down without any announcement”, a woman told a reporter.

 

The demolition of the illegal buildings, which took up an area of more than 40,000 sqm, is a part of the "Hammer Movement," an attempt by the city to clear 1.8 million square meters of land used illegally, by September of this year..
