According to the Sanya Municipal Development and Reform Commission, Sanya will soon kick off construction of the city’s first tunnel project called Hongsha Tunnel along Yuya Avenue, reports 0898.net.
 
The Hongsha tunnel project is a key project of Sanya over the 12th Five-Year-Plan period (2011-2015).
 
Starting from Xinfeng Road, Phoenix Hill to the Hongsha area, the tunnel will cover a full length of 2 km with an estimated investment of 500 million yuan.
 
At present, with more vehicles running on the road, Yuya Avenue, the only road linking the downtown center to Dadonghai district and Hongsha area, has been unable to meet the increasing demand, especially during rush hour. Besides, the traffic is heavily affected by water accumulation on the road during the raining days.
 
Though the exact time for the construction has not been made yet, the project is expected to be completed by 2014. Upon its completion, it will greatly relieve the traffic burden in Sanya.
