Haikou’s air quality ranks 1st in China for two consecutive years
Haikou’s air quality was the best out of 74 major Chinese cities in both January and February while many cities in northern China were suffering heavy smog.
The fantastic air quality is making trips to Haikou more popular during the spring festival holiday. The number of tourists visiting Haikou reached 587,000, up 40% over the same period of last year, with the tourism revenue totaling RMB700 million.
In order to maintain its title as the major city with the best air quality, the Haikou government has organized and conducted two monographic studies on the prevention of air pollution.
In addition, the government plans to establish two automatic air monitoring stations in the city.
