In order to help farmers improve their farming practice and the quality of their crops, the Sanya government has encouraged farmers to use solar-powered insect killers to replace traditional spraying of pesticides, reports hinews.cn.

According to Mr. Hong Mingxiong, one of the agricultural technical staff from Yucai Township, each hectare of land would cost him RMB1000 to 2000 to use traditional pesticides. However, the installment of a solar insect killer on his farmland has not only guaranteed good quality of crops but also saved him a lot of money compared with traditional chemical pesticides.

According to the Agricultural Technology Centre of Sanya, they will continue to make experiments to further study the environmental impact of the solar insect killers used on lands.

At present, many farmers have shown great enthusiasm toward this new technology and the local government will encourage them to adopt this technology to improve farming competitiveness as well as protect the environment.
