Sanya establishes 10th friendly city relationship with Russia’s Khabarovsk
On the afternoon of February 22, the signing ceremony for establishing friendly city relationship between Sanya City and Khabarovsk City in Russia was held in Shanhaitian Hotel. Wu Yanjun (Executive Deputy Mayor of Sanya City) and Nikolaevich (Mayor of Khabarovsk City) affixed their signatures on the agreement. Meanwhile the two parties also signed Memorandum of Understanding for Economic and Cultural Cooperation.
After establishing the friendly city relationship, the two parties will carry out a variety of exchanges and cooperation in terms of economy, trade, science & technology, culture, education, sport, hygiene and tourism to promote the common prosperity and development. Khabarovsk City will set up an office in Sanya to facilitate the quick communication and consultation between the two cities. The foreign affairs departments in the two cities will keep close contact with each other to carry out effective negotiations concerning the matters of exchange and cooperation and questions of common interest.
Wu Yanjun met with a delegation led by Nikolaevich prior to the signing ceremony. The two parties exchanged views about deepening cooperation and enhancing communication.
Sanya has established friendly city relationship with ten foreign cities so far, including Cancun in Mexico, Cannes in France, Yalta in Russia, Alhambra in USA, Seogwipo in Korea, etc..
Khabarovsk is the fourth largest city in Russia and also the location for the Russia Far East Supreme Administration. Being the capital city of Khabarov Border Area Administration and the political, economic and cultural centers and transportation hub in Russia Far East Area, Khabarovsk City has resident population of 700,000 whose income per capita is over $3,000.
Russian tourists to Sanya were 148,000 in 2010, covering 36% of the total number of foreign tourists traveling in Sanya. The number of Russia tourists from Far East Area is only second to that from Moscow. Currently Khabarovsk opens weekly regular charter flights to Sanya.
