Henry Liu, the general manager of the International Asia Pacific Convention Center in Sanya, has extensive experience in the hospitality industry including posts in InterContinental Hotels Group, Shangri-La Hotels, and Resorts, and HNA Hotels and Resorts. He is a graduate of the Beijing Foreign Studies University with a major in English and he gained an EMBA degree in Jinan University.
 
What are your thoughts on the development of Sanya’s hospitality market in recent years?

It’s prosperous; the number of high-level hotels is increasing incredibly and there is a lot of competition. There will be many more hotel rooms than the actual market demand warrants: which will leads a new market structure.
 
What can the plan to construct an international tourist island bring to the Sanya hospitality market?

The world will get to know Sanya and more foreign tourists will come. With the development of Sanya as an international tourist island it will become many tourists’ first choice when they think about their vacation plans.
 
As a local hotel brand, what distinguishes the International Asia Pacific Convention Center and HNA Resort Sanya?

HNA ranks third among Chinese Hotel management groups: International Asia Pacific Convention Center and HNA Resort Sanya is the best resort in this group. It features the best ocean views on the western coast of Sanya and has professional convention facilities. What’s more, we are also proud of our fantastic beach side restaurant ‘ocean view restaurant’, the biggest villa in Sanya, the biggest sailing club in China and some luxury yachts.

As the general manager of Tangla Sanya project, please tell us something about this project plan and development.

It will be the superb first luxury hotel under the Tangla brand. It’s under construction now, and the soft-opening will be in October 2012.
 
What challenges do you think your hotel is facing in the Sanya market?

The competition for human resources. The employee engagement rate must be improved while the employee turnover rate must be controlled.
