Sanya to strengthen supervision on seafood restaurants during public holidays

On Jan 11, 2011, the Sanya Industry & Commerce Bureau set up a special team to investigate an incident of price gouging at a seafood restaurant in Sanya Bay. During the investigation, the seafood restaurant was ordered to cease operation for its illegal price hikes.

After the meal, they were surprised to be told that the bill was 27,831 yuan. After the tourist guide’s negotiation, the restaurant agreed to give them a 40% discount.
However, the tourists still believed that they were cheated and called the police. Under police’s mediation, the restaurant finally agreed to charge them 10,000 for the meal. Because their plane was going to take off soon, the tourists had to sign on the bill and left.
On the evening of that day, one of the tourists made a complaint to the Sanya Industry & Commerce Bureau, who immediately carried out an investigation into the case and ordered the restaurant to suspend business.
The official of the Sanya Industry & Commerce Bureau said in order to regulate the business of seafood restaurants around the city, they will set up a special team to strengthen supervision on these restaurants to prevent illegal price hikes during public holidays.
