On the morning of Jan 7, 2011, Sea Turtles 911, a Honolulu-based non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of sea turtles, held a sea turtle release ceremony at The Ritz-Carlton, Sanya.

Members of Sea Turtles 911 and hotel guests took active part in this activity and witnessed the significant moment.

There were a total of 6 different endangered sea turtles including Hawksbill Sea Turtles, Green Sea Turtles and Olive Ridley Sea Turtles released into their nature habitat in Yalong Bay.

Sea Turtles 911’s efforts are focused in China on the Hainan Island coastal regions, home to the critically endangered Hawksbill Sea Turtle and the endangered Green Sea Turtle.

At the ceremony, PhD. Nicolas J. Pilcher, an international marine turtle specialist, gave a brief presentation on the biology of sea turtles and the present dangerous environment threatening to this significant creature.

A charity donation was held after the ceremony. The donation will be used to support the sea turtles protection program of Sea Turtles 911.

Through the sea turtles release activity, Sea Turtles 911 wants to make a difference on the turtles’ future and spread the awareness and appreciation among local people and convert the turtle poachers into protectors to preserve these ancient creatures and their habitats.
