Members of the Loving Heart Society in Haikou, Hainan province, continue to champion downtrodden orphans and widowed senior citizens.

The society, founded in 2001 by a group of netizens, now has 1,500 volunteers and has raised millions over the past five years to help seniors and orphans who are struggling in life.

To offer children in poor areas a better education, the group collected more than 350,000 donated books and built 175 libraries in 15 cities and counties.

"To see the smiles on the faces of people we have helped gives us the faith and strength to continue with our work," one of the volunteers said.
