According to the Sanya Road Traffic Safety Forum held on Dec 3rd, the  Sanya Planning Bureau is considering building a second airport for a long-run plan for traffic development in Sanya.
    
As a professional tourism city, two features can be seen from Sanya‘s current transportation. One is the co-existence of tourist traffic and urban traffic which doubles the pressure that Sanya transportation faces. The other is seasonal changes of traffic demand in Sanya due to the seasonal tourist peak.
 
To guarantee the current status of being a professional tourism city, the Sanya Planning Bureau strives to improve its traffic situation. It will enlarge the air passenger capacity of Sanya Phoenix International Airport and plans to build a second airport for a long-run plan.
