Tour guides proficient in more languages needed to boost tourism in Sanya
As a southernmost tourism city in China, Sanya still enjoys summer scenery in winter. Many expats flood to Sanya for a special experience of enjoying summer days while it is winter in China. However, they are encountered with communication embarrassment due to the shortage of minor language guides in Sanya.
Sanya has more expat tourists from Northern Europe and Eastern Europe. The minor language tour guides who specialize in minor languages, such as German, Spanish and Russian are in urgent need at present.
Those non-English speaking expats find it is more difficult to make their journey comfortable for they can hardly find a person who can communicate with.
According to the responsible person of the tour guide management centre of the Sanya Tourism Development Committee, there are about 400 registered foreign language tour guides in Sanya, and one third of them are English tour guides. Though there are about 266 minor language tour guides in Sanya, they still can’t meet the need for the expats who prefer to travel around Sanya in a small group with a total of three to five persons. The conflict leads to a shortage of minor language tour guides during peak tourist season in Sanya.
