According to the Sanya Tourism Development Committee, more than 6.63 million overnight tourists visited Sanya in the first three quarters of this year: up 20.7 percent from the previous year.

During the period from January to September, Sanya’s six major scenic spots received 6.93 million tourists, 15.86 percent more than in the same period of the previous year. The hotel occupancy rate increased 2.09 percentage points to 61.38 percent. Sanya Phoenix International Airport handled 7.14 million passengers, 31.6 percent more than in the same period of last year.

Russia became the major overseas source market for Sanya during the period. A total of 100,000 Russian tourists visited Sanya in the first nine months.

The committee also said that tourism revenues rose 21.6 percent from a year earlier to 10.08 billion yuan in the first three quarters. Domestic tourism revenue rose 21.6 percent year on year to 8.86 billion yuan while tourism income of foreign exchange rose 23.3 percent year on year to $180 million.
