Stray dogs become potential hazard in Haitang Bay, Sanya
On Oct 20th, the Sanya Municipal Government issued a notice to strengthen rabies prevention and control due to high rabies occurrence in Haitang Bay of Sanya. The government has allowed people to hunt dogs which are homeless, free-range or without immunization, reports hinews.cn.
From 2009, rabies occurrence keeps increasing in Haitang Bay of Sanya. It even has occupied 70% of the total rabies cases and frightened the local people with a 100 percent mortality rate.
From 1992 to 2008, no rabies case was found in Sanya. However, since the first case of rabies had been discovered in 2009, rabies occurrence keeps increasing.
The high rabies occurrence in Haitang Bay is mainly due to the lack of timely and proper treatment and the large number of stray dogs there.
