Miss Ireland Emma Britt Waldron

Miss Ireland Emma Britt Waldron has finished in the final five of Miss World in Saturday night’s contest in southern China.

Ms Waldron already achieved some success in the competition, winning the Continental Queen title in the European category, and also winning the Miss World Talent fast-track event.

The overall competition was won by eighteen-year-old American Alexandria Mills.

Second place went to Emma Wareus of Botswana, and Adriana Vasini of Venezuela came third.

The host country’s own contestant, Tang Xiao, was also among the final five.

According to a brief biography on the Miss World website, Miss Mills calls Louisville, Kentucky, her home town, and she recently graduated from high school. She would like to become a teacher.

"I’ve never met a stranger and enjoy meeting new people," she said in the biography.

Women from more than 100 countries participated in the contest, organisers said.

This is the 60th year of the Miss World Competition.
