A German tourist and three Chinese diving coaches were rescued off Dongdao Island in Sanya after reportedly missing for nearly 20 hours, reports sanya.hinews.cn.
The German tourist, Lars Becker, headed for Dongdao Island for diving with three diving coaches from Sanya Bay Diving Base, about 4:00p.m on 3rd Oct.
They encountered a fierce rainstorm shortly after they set off on a speed boat, which was out of control and floating towards the sea area off Meishan, according to Lars Becker after he was rescued.
They were out of touch when the Sanya Bay Diving Base tried to contact with them.
About 11:00a.m. Oct. 4, two speed boats dispatched by the base finally located the four missing persons and their boat in the sea area off Jiaotou Bay in Meishan.
The base reported the emergency situation to the Sanya Maritime Bureau, who immediately sent out a rescue team to the site. According to a rescue team member, the speed boat ran aground on the beach of Jiaotou Bay and had run out of fuel.
At present, the rescued divers are in good condition, according to the report.
