The State of Environmental Protection Department recently released a ranking list collating the real-time air quality monitoring data in 74 cities in January, and the air quality in Haikou ranked number one amongst Chinese cities, according to the report.

Following Haikou, completing the top ten Chinese cities for good air quality are Fuzhou, Zhoushan, Xiamen, Huizhou, Zhaoqing, Shenzhen, Kunming, Lhasa and Zhuhai.

On the other end of the scale, the ten cities with the most serious air pollution problems are Xingtai, Shijiazhuang, Baoding, Handan, Langfang, Hengshui, Jinan, Tangshan, Beijing and Zhengzhou.

Every month, the department will release a ranking report of the 20 domestic cities that enjoy the best and worst air quality.

Among the 74 domestic cities, only Beijing, Shanghai and Zhengzhou have worked out emergency plans to deal with the air pollution problems.
