Tourists on the beach of Sanya Bay, Hainan province were shocked when a young man drove a black Subaru SUV into the sea, abandoned it and left in a rush, on the afternoon of August 29, reports sanya.hinews.cn.

Traffic police rushed to the site after a tourist dialed 110. An eyewitness said he was going to swim in the sea area about 3:00pm when the young man drove the car towards the beach.

At first he thought it was an accident but then he was shocked by the driver’s behaviour. The driver drove the car directly into the sea until the tires were almost soaked in the sea water.

The driver, a 180cm-tall young man, got off the car and left in a rush. Some curious tourists asked him the reason, but he said in a cold voice, "I don’t want to keep this car any more." It is said that the owner is a local resident.

Police, tourists and residents worked together to move the car to the bank after three hours’ efforts. It is said that the car is a Subaru SUV, valued about RMB 200,000.

The case is still under investigation.
