Nairobi Mayor His Worshsip Geoffrey Odhiambo Majiwa wants artists and celebrities to work with the city authority so as to alleviate some of the challenges facing the city residents.
Speaking at his palour on Wednesday when he hosted the recently concluded Miss World Kenya winners, Councilor Majiwa congratulated the pageant participants for giving out their best and urged them to be good Ambassadors in solving the world problems. He thanked Miss World Kenya organizers led by Terry Mungai of Ashley Ltd for the good job they are doing in promoting values and confidence among the youths and promised that the City Council would offer them the necessary support.
The Miss World Kenya 2010 pageant came to an end on August 21, 2010, where twenty year old Miss Natasha Metto clinched the coveted title in a very stiff competition. The Cabin Crew student at a Nairobi College, impressed with beauty, intellect, and poise , beating 11 other finalists to also win the grand prize- brand new Toyota IST. The first runner up position went to eighteen year old Farida Diba while Nderaisho Mshilla, a third year student of Business Administration at the United States International University became the second runner up.
Natasha will represent Kenya at the Miss World finals in Sanya, China this October to compete against 120 other young girls from all over the world for the title which she believes she will bring home for the first time. The competition was modeled on the Miss World Pageant that seeks to assess the woman as a whole and not just her beauty. Each week, the girls were judged on a series of competitive tasks known as Fast-Track events namely, Top Model, Sports, Public Speaking, Talent and Language – aptitude to learn basic Chinese Phrases.
Other winners of the night included designers Dola Creations whose gown scooped best outfit, which the winner would showcase in the finals in China. Miss Faith Wanyama won Miss Photogenic award while Mercy Akinyi won Miss Sports Award.
