Haikou Meilan Int'l Airport (HMIA) plans to add 1,775 flights, mainly to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Chongqing, Changsha, Wuhan, Zhengzhou, Hefei and other domestic cities, to meet the demands of tourists during the 40-day Spring Festival travel peak (the period from Jan.26 to March 6).

Since the beginning of 2013, the airport has opened many new flight routes such as the Haikou- Quanzhou-Nantong flight, Haikou-Yulin-Hohhot flight, Haikou-Ningbo-Dongying flight, Haikou- Yichang flight and Haikou-Guiyang-Yinchuan flight.

During the Spring Festival, the airport is expecting to see 12,815 flights depart and arrive, and the passenger throughput hit 1.7196 million. Meanwhile, the flight occupancy rate is expected to reach 86.5%.

The period from Feb.11 to Feb.15 will be the peak period for flights and the airport is planning to operate 359 and 355 flights respectively on these two days.
