Sanya Phoenix International Airport was ranked among the top 10 fastest growing airports in the world in 2009, according to a recent report released by the Airports Council International (ACI).
 
İstanbul International Ataturk Airport was ranked the first with the growth rate of 52.3% and annual passenger throughput of 6.64 million, followed by Rio de Janeiro International Airport with the growth rate of 40.6% and 5.1 million passengers per year.
 
China has 8 airports selected in the list. Most of them are in second-tier cities, according to the report.
 
Wuhan Tianhe International Airport took the 3rd position in the world and the 1st in China, following by Changsha Huanghua International Airport, Sany Phoenix International Airport, and Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, all of which have a growth rate of more than 30%.
 
The other four airports in the list are in Xi’an, Chongqing, Zhengzhou and Nanjing, all of which have a growth rate of more than 20%.
