Artificial rain enhancement may help ease water shortage in Sanya
The artificial rain will be mainly produced over large reservoirs
in the city to increase reservoir storage capacities.
Meteorological authorities of Sanya, Hainan province are gearing up to induce more artificial rain as light to moderate rain was forecast to sweep the drought-stricken city from west to east for three days from Wednesday.
Tropical storm Conson, developed from a tropical depression, took shape over the Pacific near the Philippines at 8 a.m. Monday. Moving at 20 to 25 miles an hour, it is estimated to arrive at the South China Sea around Wednesday evening and bring precipitation to the thirsty Hainan province.
The Sanya weather bureau says the artificial rain enhancementwill will depend on the impact of Conson to Sanya. They haven’t ruled out the possibility of inducing more rain in the following days.
The artificial rain will be mainly produced over large reservoirs in the city to increase reservoir storage capacities.
The average rainfall of Hainan Province was 372.25 millimeters since this January, 31 percent down from the average volume in the same period of past years.
