Hainan to transform 1,000 existing villages into rural attractions by 2020
Luoyi Village in Chengmai County
Along with its beach appeal, Hainan has another side to its charm that it wants to show to the world.
The tropical island aims to be a top international tourism destination by 2020. One of the ways it intends to do this is by popularizing the natural charms of the small villages scattered across the island.
According to the overall plan for the province’s village-themed tourism industry, about 500 model tourism villages will be developed island wide by 2017, as part of the growing village tourism program, all with their selling points. By 2020, the number of model tourism villages will reach 1,000. Besides, a batch of new agricultural leisure tourism locations will be formed for rural tourism development.
Rural tourism can provide new business opportunities, help preserve beautiful scenery and push forward urbanization.
There are a range of new and old villages on the island, along with breathtaking natural scenery and well-kept cultural traditions. The rural tours offer not only home stays but also well-designed trips to Hainan’s most unique sites.
