Bo’ao Airport in Qionghai expected to start trial operation in March 2016
Bo’ao Airport, the third airport on Hainan Island, is expected to start trial operation at the end of March 2016, according to the local government.
Located in Zhongyuan Township, 12 kilometers from the city center, Bo’ao Airport began construction officially in March this year.
Built with an investment of nearly 1.127 billion yuan, the new airport will have a 3,400-meter-long and 45-meter-wide runway, 26 parking stands, and a 9,000 square-meter terminal building.
The airport is designed to serve 480,000 passengers, 1,440 tons of cargo, and 4,950 aircraft movements annually by 2020. The airport aims to serve the eastern Hainan region, including air traffic for major events such as the Bo’ao Forum for Asia, in the long-term.
