Foreign tourists who plan to visit Wuzhi Mountain in Wuzhishan City have to wait.
The local government had released a notice saying that they would not accept foreign tourists because of safety concerns since a Canadian tourist got lost there for two days last October.
The local tourism bureau is making efforts to look for safety measures and improve the infrastructure at the scenic spot so that foreign tourists will receive better guidance before it is opened to them again.
Wuzhishan is the highest mountain in Hainan Island, making it one of the symbols of Hainan and also one of the most famous mountains in China. The name of the mountain is derived from its five peaks (“wu” means five in Chinese).
