Construction on the Hainan Western Ring High-speed Railway is underway.

According to local departments, the Hainan Western Ring Railway is planned to be officially put into operation on December 20.

The Hainan Western Ring Railway, running between Haikou and Sanya, will pass trough six cities and the counties of Chengmai, Lingao, Danzhou, Changjiang, Dongfang and Ledong, linking 16 stations in total.

The Hainan Western Ring High-speed Railway has been listed as one of the most significant projects in Hainan during the 12th Five-year Plan period (2011 to 15). It is expected to be an impetus to the construction of the Hainan International Tourism Island, as well as to Hainan‘s economy.

Upon its completion, the rail line will link up with the Eastern Ring Railway and form a circuit around the island, which will help the boost development in western Hainan province.

Dongfang is expected to be a beneficiary of the railway. With two stations — Basuo Station and Banqiao Station — in the city, Dongfang is expecting to receive more tourists. At present, the city government is taking measures to improve tourism toilets, restaurants and sewage systems before the railway begins operation.

Jianfengling National Park is also expected to receive a tourism boost. The park is now applying for approval for the opening of a direct tourism bus to the park.

Food is an important element in tourism. Lingao’s seafood, roast pig, Danzhou’s braised Dongpo pork hock, and more signature dishes in western Hainan are going to attract more tourists on their “journey to the west.”
