Hainan to develop sustainable diving tourism
With its good visibility, soft white beaches, warm and colorful waters, abundant coral life and wide variety of colorful tropical fish, Hainan is one of the most popular diving destinations in China.
The best diving centers are mainly located in Dadonghai, Yalong Bay, Wuzhizhou Island, Boundary Island, and Dazhou Island.

The visibility of the water on the island is usually 8-16 meters with a lot of coral landscape and schools of beautiful tropical fish. Among them, Wuzhizhou Island is the most prominent destination with a variety of soft corals while Yalong Bay and Dazhou Island.
To regulate the deep-sea diving tourism market and ensure the sustainable development of Sanya’s marine environment, diving practitioners across Sanya are now required to be registered and obtain two certificates in order to legally run commercial diving businesses, the Hainan Daily reports.
The two certificates include the professional diving certificate and an operating permit issued by the Sanya Culture and Sports Bureau.
Besides, the government issued a standard regulation this June to lead the diving industry in Sanya into a more orderly development path.
According to the new regulation, all deep-sea diving tourism operators are required to provide customers clean and dry diving suits and must teach beginners the gestures necessary for safe underwater exploration and must teach basic first aid in order to better deal with diving emergencies that could occur.
An instructor can only guide a tourist to dive underwater at a depth of up to 10 meters for less than 30 minutes at a time.
Each licensed diving instructor can teach a group with no more than 20 trainees and the whole skill training should last no less than 20 minutes. After the training, the diving instructors should let the trainees practice themselves before tourists are allowed to begin diving.
