South Korea to become largest tourist source market for Hainan

The Hainan government predicted that, with the support of new air routes and promotion schemes, South Korean is expected to replace Russia to be the largest inbound tourist source market for Hainan.

The Hainan tourism authority recently released this year’s tourism forecasts.

The number of tourists from South Korea grew rapidly in the first half of this year.

Currently, the top eight tourist source markets for Hainan are Russia, South Korea, Singapore, the U.S., Malaysia, Japan, Germany and Canada.

Industry insiders note that the island’s tourism industry has benefited greatly from a sharp rise of overseas flights allowed to operate to Hainan.

The opening of new routes in May brought more than 4,000 South Korean tourists to Hainan.

Hainan will re-design its tourism products with more focus on the high-end market, including international brand hotels and well-developed golf course facilities to attract more tourists from South Korea.
