The 2015 annual China (Hainan) Qixian Hotspring Water-Splashing Festival will be held in Baoting from August 19th to 21st.

The opening ceremony of the festival will be held at the Qixian Square and Yanoda Cultural Tourism Zone and Binglanggu Valley will be the branch venues to celebrate the event.

The festival is held on the seventh day of the seventh month by the lunar calendar and has become a cultural attraction in Hainan.

This year’s festival will feature Li & Miao dance and folk songs, a traditional song and dance competition, Li & Miao cuisine, an intangible heritage exhibition and a free-for-all water splashing carnival to showcase the unique culture of the Li and Miao ethnic minority groups.

Besides, a cross-strait cultural performance will be held, aiming to promote cultural exchanges between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.

Most residents of Baoting County are Li and Miao minorities. The water-splashing event is their most important traditional festival. People traditionally put on their best clothes and splash water on each other to extend their best wishes.
