Hainan plans to give priority to developing 10 tourism industries over the next 5-10 years to boost it into a competitive international tourism destination.

The plan includes measures to promote marine tourism, healthcare tourism, shopping tourism, MICE tourism, cultural and sports tourism, rural and leisure tourism, forest tourism, Internet tourism, scenery towns and tourism infrastructures.

The government plans to lift the added value of tourism industry in Hainan to more than 8% of its gross domestic product (GDP) by 2020. According to the plan, the tourism revenue will account for 20% of the regional GDP, and the average per-capita consumption of overnight-stay tourist will reach 3,500 yuan.

 
Meanwhile, Hainan is planning to build itself into a pilot zone for China tourism reform and the world-class sea-islet leisure holiday destination by 2020, with tourist arrivals reaching 112 million and the tourism revenue generating from it reaching 230 billion yuan.
