Chengmai has increased investment in the development of village tourism this year, in order to further entice tourists to visit the county’s villages.
 
According to the plan, the local government will transform 19 villages into tourism spots as part of the growing village tourism program.
 
Village tourism is a new concept in the tourism industry. The new approach involves guiding tourists to farms and villages, where they can have an authentic experience of local rural life. Village officials are urged to develop areas that can be transformed into tourist attractions.
 
Chengmai was honored as the "longevity hometown" of China in 2009, and the “longevity hometown” of the world in 2012. Chengmai features ancient villages where visitors can experience the peaceful lifestyle of rural farmers while appreciating the area’s ancient architecture and beautiful landscapes.
