Hainan holds tourism promotion conference in Osaka, Japan
On May 15th, Hainan’s tourism promotion conference organized by the Hainan Tourism Development Commission was held in Osaka, Japan, to introduce Hainan’s abundant tourism products to local tourism companies, media and tourists.
During the conference, the delegation promoted the water sports tourism and golf tourism offerings of Hainan Island. Around 80 representatives from Osaka’s top travel agencies, tourism associations and media attended the Hainan tourism promotion conference.
The annual number of Japanese tourists visiting Hainan set a historical record of 50,000. However, Hainan’s Japanese tourism market was severely hit by the global economic crisis in 2008 and has so far been unable to recover after the downturn.
The lack of direct chartered flights is often thought to be the bottleneck of expanding cooperation between Hainan and Japan. According to the Hainan delegation, a direct charter flight between the two regions is expected to open soon. This will hopefully open new passageways for tourists from Japan wishing to visit Hainan.
