The Hainan government recently unveiled its plan for the development of the Lecheng International Medical Tourism Zone in Boao, Qionghai between 2015 and 2024.

Under the plan, the medical tourism zone will be built into a world-class medical tourism destination as well as the gathering place for high-end talents in the medical sector, with the annual revenue hitting 50 billion yuan.

Key projects at the medical zone will include healthcare management, rehabilitation centers, advanced cancer treatment and anti-aging services.

The construction will be divided into 3 phases. The authorities will work out specific plans and regulations for the medical zone for the first three years and important infrastructure and facilities will be completed during the same period.

From 2018-2020, much of the investment in the area is expected to go to the construction of medical institutions to further improve the development of Sany’s health services industry. The remaining the years will be used to strive toward building the zone into a model demonstration zone with good medical facilities and great quality services.

By 2024, the number of tourists to the medical zone should account for more than 5% of the total overnight tourist arrivals in the province.
