New tourism products boost Hainan’s tourism and consumption levels
Hainan’s tourism has received a major boost with a range of new tourism products and services having been developed to lure tourists.
Since 2010, Hainan has been transforming itself from a sightseeing-type destination into a leisurely holiday destination. A batch of emerging tourism products have been launched on the island, including marine tourism, golf tourism, folklore tourism, rural tourism, shopping tourism and low-altitude airspace helicopter tourism.
Duty-free shopping is becoming more and more popular as a tourist attraction as well. The province’s duty-free shopping has seen rapid development. During this year’s 7-day Chinese New Year holiday, the Sanya Haitang Bay Duty-free Shopping Center and Haikou Duty-free Store at Meilan Airport received 219,7000 and 179,000 tourists, respectively.
Since Hainan became an official member of the Asia Cruise Fund in December 2014, the number of cruise ships departing and arriving at Sanya’s Phoenix Island International Cruise Terminal and Haikou’s Xiuying Port reached 156 total in the year, bringing around 189,600 passengers, a year-on-year increase of 91.4%.
Besides, within the island’s boundaries are a range of villages, new and old, along with picturesque natural scenery and well-kept cultural traditions. Agro-tours offer not only homestays but also well-designed trips to Hainan’s most unique sites.
