Sanya Phoenix Island International Cruise Terminal

Hainan is taking the next step to develop, by turning attention from land to the sea in 2015, according to an official meeting to review the island tourism recently.

Since China this year unveiled a plan for the 21st Century “Maritime Silk Road”, this offers biggest opportunity and the biggest comparative advantage for Hainan, which takes a role in the development of the marine tourism industry of China.

Hainan Island has a unique advantage in its marine tourism with a total maritime area of 2 million square kilometers, a total coastline of more than 1,800 km, about 70 great gulfs, and more than 50 larger islands and rich marine tourist resources.

Authorities also pointed out that Hainan has an urgent need to speed up the construction of cruise homeports in Haikou and Sanya to introduce more international cruise liner companies to develop routes to the island.

Meanwhile, coastal cities and counties will further develop the island’s abundant marine tourism resources such as surfing, diving, hot-spring spas, seaplane, yachting and cruises and make branding a top priority.

Besides, the provincial government is planning to carry out promotional strategies to advertise its marine tourism in domestic and overseas markets such as Australia, South Korea and Southeast Asia regions.
