In order to coordinate and promote urban and rural development, the Hainan Provincial government is planning to build a total of 100 tropical scenic towns with various characteristics during the period between 2011 and 2030.
 
According to the plan, the development of scenic towns in the eastern region will mainly focus on tropical agriculture, coastal sightseeing and marine tourism, while the western and central parts of the island will feature folk cultural tourism and eco tourism.
 
These towns, actively exploring international standards with local characteristics, will be another drawing card for Hainan tourism.
