Blessed with abundant resources such as the local rainforest, fresh air and clear ocean water, Hainan plans to build itself into a hot spring tourism destination and brand.

Hainan Island is rich in under-ground hot spring resources, from barely warm to scalding hot, and pure fresh water to mineral laden pools of sulfur and iron.

The island has more than 200 underground mineral resources and hot springs, among which 75 hot spring sites have been commercially developed so far.

Experts have suggested that the local government integrate all available hot spring resources and create scientific criteria for the evaluation of the hot spring tourism offerings.

Several types of hot spring tourism products can be developed, such as a general hot spring experience for the mass market, high-end immersive health vacations, as well as scientific research-based tours.

As for the infrastructure aspect, the provincial government can promulgate the construction of a number of high-grade hot spring tourism resorts and the development of hot spring cultural programs while further improving hot spring tourism services and facilities. Besides, scientific exploration is required in order to maintain the sustainable development of hot spring tourism.
