Hongshui Village in Changjiang County, Hainan
 
12 villages in Hainan have been listed among the third batch of Traditional Chinese Villages, bringing the total number of the province’s ancient villages on the list to 19.

On December 25th, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Finance jointly released the third list of Chinese Traditional Villages including Sanji Village of Shishan Township in Haikou, Damei Village of Jinjiang Township, Luoyi Village of Laocheng Township in Chengmai County, Hongshui Village in Changjiang County, Laodan Village of Foluo Township in Ledong County and 7 other sites in Hainan.

"We have been attaching great importance to the protection of historical and cultural towns and villages as well as other old villages. What’s more, their historical and cultural heritage are being explored and promoted more and more," said an official with the Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Hainan.

Last year, the province saw 7 villages, iincluding Baoping Village in Yacheng Town of Sanya, recognized as Traditional Chinese Villages.
