Hainan duty-free sales reach RMB 3.1 billion in first 9 months of 2014

Hainan has seen a surge in offshore duty-free shopping, with total sales revenue of 3.1 billion between January and September 2014, a year-on-year increase of 24%.
Hainan has two duty-free shops, with one in the provincial capital of Haikou and the other in the resort city of Sanya.
The world’s largest duty-free shop, Sanya Haitang Bay International Duty-free Complex, opened for business on September 1st, 2014, becoming a new island landmark to promote the province as a tourism destination
Besides, Haikou will expand the area of its duty-free store at Meilan International Airport from its current 5,000 sqm to 60,000 sqm and offer special discounts on a wide range of merchandise for passengers traveling through the airport
