The UNICEF charity night held on the final day of the challenging five-day cycling event organized by Le Meridien Shimei Bay Resort in Hainan was a resounding success. Over 120,000 RMB was raised through various charity items donated, including stays in the Shimei Bay Le Meridien hotel as well as gym memberships.

The gala dinner was attended by top local government officials, Chinese celebrities, philanthropists, organizers, and cyclists, who gathered to share their moments of joy and success in the event and enjoy the food and shows, later generously bidding on items. The proceeds were donated to aid less fortunate children in China and around the world.

Mr. Hu Bing, a famous model and actor in China, appointed as the Ambassador of Love of the event.

The UNICEF Check Out for Children Challenge is a staff fundraising competition amongst Starwood Hotels which began in 2003 and continues to gather strong support throughout Starwood Hotels and Resorts in the Asia Pacific region.

The Challenge has become an immensely popular way to increase the hotel’s support of the Check Out for Children program as it unites hotel staff and guests under a common goal – to help children in need.

For 18 years UNICEF and Starwood Hotels and Resorts have been working together to raise funds for the world’s most vulnerable children. Almost $9 million has been raised total.

Though this was the first year for Le Meridien Shimei Bay Resort to take on the UNICEF fundraising event, with over 120,000 RMB raised in one night, the prospect of hosting the fundraising event at Le Meridien Shimei Bay Resort in the future is promising.

"The round-the-island cycling event has proven to be very successful and is aligned with our core value of caring for our local community”, Mr. Kevin Qin Guoxiang, the General Manager of Le Meridien Shimei Bay Resort said. “This is the second year that the hotel will raise funds for a local primary school in Wanning. By calling for more people to join in the special charity drive, we can make a difference for the less fortunate children not only in Wanning but also worldwide.”

Mr. Kevin Qin Guoxiang stated, “Being part of Starwood Hotel Group, Le Meridien Shimei Bay Resort will host charity activities to raise funds for the UNICEF Check Out for Children Challenge every year from now on”.
